History of Islam in Anguilla
It was conquered by the British in 1650 and remains an overseas territory of the UK. It has an area of 91 sq km which comprises the main island of Anguilla and several mostly tiny and uninhabited nearby islands. The island’s name means eel and it used to be named Snake Island due to its shape.
First Muslims arrived at this island in the 1990s and census data showed the presence of no Muslims in 1992 and before. The number of Muslims reached 36 or 0.3% in 2001 and 43 or 0.3% in 2011.
Thus, assuming that the percentage of Muslims will continue to increase by 0.01 of a percentage point per decade; then the Muslim population is expected to remain less than sixty throughout this century, reaching 0.4% by the end of this century.
