History of Islam in Monaco
The Principality of Monaco has a total area of 2 sq km and its map is presented in Figure 4.3.6. It was under Muslim control from 891 to 973 by Muslim Andalusians who controlled southeast current France. Censuses here gather information on the nationality of foreign citizens living in the country. Estimate of Muslims from 1908 to 1951 is taken to be the number of Turks recorded in the corresponding census. The largest ten nationalities of Muslim majority countries since 1956 is provided in Table 4.3.6a. Based on these numbers and as shown in Table 4.3.6b, the Muslim population increased from double digits until 1961, to 567 or 2.1% in 1982 and peaked at 905 or 3.0% in 1990, but remained at triple digits, changing from 886 or 2.0% in 2000, to 706 or 2.0% in 2008, to 865 or 2.3% in 2016.
Thus, assuming that the percentage of Muslims will increase by half of a percentage point per decade; then the Muslim population is expected to double from 1,500 or 4% in 2050 to 3,000 or 6.5% in 2100.
