History of Islam in Oman
The Sultanate of Oman has an area of 309,500 sq km and its map ispresented in Figure 2.3.6. In 629, Prophet Muhammad sent hiscompanion Amru bnul Aass as an envoy to the two brother rulers ofhistorical Oman, which included current Oman and UAE. The Prophetinvited the two brothers, Jayfar and Abd Bnul Julandi, to accept Islam.The rulers of Oman did accept Islam along with their population andMuslims remained the majority of the population of the whole regionsince then.
The entire population in 1922 and 1950 was Muslim. The first censuswas conducted in 1993, according to which Muslims numbered 1.77million and made up 87.7% of the total population.
Thus, assuming that this percentage remains constant; then theMuslim population is expected to exceed five million by 2050 and beclose to seven million by 2100.
