History of Islam in San Marino
The Republic of San Marino is an enclave in the Northeast of the Italian Peninsula with a total area of 61 sq km and its map is presented in Figure 4.5.9. As of 1976, there were no Muslims here. The largest ten nationalities of Muslim majority countries since 2012 is provided in Table 4.5.9a. Based on these numbers and as shown in Table 4.5.9b, the Muslim population increased from 104 or 0.3% in 2012, to 138 or 0.4% in 2016 and 145 or 0.4% in 2021.
Thus, assuming that the percentage of Muslims will increase by a tenth of a percentage point per decade; then the Muslim population is expected to stay below 400 throughout this century.
